A nude, a dark and a bright lipstick

Instead of sharing a video I thought I’d tell you about two lipsticks that I come back to all the time and a new one that I think will join the others as a firm favourite.

The first, which I have been using for years, is DIOR Sérum De Rouge Luminous Color in Nude Serum 510.

This is so, so lovely. It makes my lips look like I almost have nothing on them, but they look like a perfect version of themselves. It also feels more like I have applied a lip balm rather than a lipstick. Dior claim that it’s anti-ageing, lip plumping and smoothing and generally very good for your lips. I’m sold. Even at £26 know I’ll repurchase time and time again.

The dark lipstick I’ve been wearing recently is Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Black Cherry 477.

This is quite a big departure for me because I think that my lips are slightly on the thin side and so usually steer clear of anything that is going to emphasise this. However, I saw a make-up look using it in the December 2012 issue of Elle Magazine (page 266) and was convinced to try it. I love the look they have done (and subsequently also bought Red Lacquer which was used too) but also love wearing this patted onto lips to achieve more of a stain, which I think suits less full lips better. Lisa Eldridge has done a brilliant video on wearing dark lipstick using this technique. Having watched it I really want YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in 08 Belle de Rose too.

The lipstick that I know really lifts and brightens my face is Rimmel Colour Show Off Lipstick in Kiss Me which, on writing this post, I have discovered is discontinued! Terrible news! I almost didn’t continue to write about it but I love it so much I really feel I have to, perhaps you can find it on Amazon or Ebay… I can’t find it but if you do please leave a comment with the link!

The reason I love it so much is the colour, it seems to really suit my olive complexion and make my eyes brighter, even without any eye make-up. One of my favourite looks with this lipstick is loads of mascara and not much else (except eyebrows, always eyebrows). It can get a little drying if I’m reapplying it through the day but I just add a little balm to counteract this.

Those are three favourites among about 30 others, I might do another post on favourite red lipsticks soon too!

Mama Mia: Zoe Foster leaves the gang

Oh wow. As gutted as I am that Zoe will no longer be writing for Australian lifestyle site Mama Mia, I’m delighted that she has kindly written a final piece that rounds up every single one of her beauty posts! It’s a merry feast of brilliant, witty and honest beauty advice that every girl should read.

Fleur De Force: 10 Products I Would Repurchase

Products I now need in my life:

Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner in Perversion: http://tidd.ly/44bbb5ec – Apparently the blackest of the black eyeliners, with great staying power.

Urban Decay Primer Potion: http://tidd.ly/c3bd66bf – Fleur just makes this sound so great; imagine being able to go to bed with your eyeshadow still on and wake up with it still perfectly intact the next morning! (Joke. Joke! I would never (sometimes) go to bed without removing my make-up).

Nars Sin Blush: http://tinyurl.com/8mc2r99  – Not a new need, have wanted this for ages.

Urban Decay Lip Pencil in Big Bang: http://tidd.ly/162d6c23 – Sounds amazing!

Cannot talk about this video without mentioning how extraordinarily good Fleur’s hair looks.

Lisa Eldridge: Summertime Fresh – Bright Lips And Lashes

Not only is this a lovely make-up look but the model, Bip, is that kind of girl who makes you want to be her. Cool and beautiful, Bip runs her own blog and is also a DJ.

Lisa uses a pretty red/pink mascara on Bip which, to be honest, I would think would make a person look like they’d been crying or living in a hole for a couple of weeks. But, of course, Lisa knows better and the tone of the mascara really brings out the green-y highlights in Bip’s eyes.

A bright pop of hot pink lipstick finishes the look.

I want to be Bip. Or at the very least I’d settle for her eyebrows.

Tanya Burr: Backstage At The Burberry SS13 Fashion Show

I absolutely love Twitter, and never more so than during Fashion Week. It’s so brilliant to see real-time snippets of the shows from the magazine editors, bloggers and fashionistas as they see the brand new designs on the runway.

Here is a brilliant video from Tanya Burr at the Burberry SS13 show in London, to say I’m envious would be a small understatement; how incredible is Cara Delevingne?

Garance Doré: Welcome to Fashion Week

I’m not sure I’ve ever come across someone with as much natural flair and style as Garance. Her blog is a dream to both read and look at. Her illustrations are so good, in fact, that she has recently collaborated with Kate Spade on a range of clothing and accessories (I NEED the iPhone case).

This video is part of Pardon my French, a series in which Garance shares delicious snippets from her life and travels. Watching these videos is guaranteed to make you want to be this illustrator, blogger, photographer; her life seems to be like living in the pages of Vogue.

Lisa Eldridge: My Beauty Regime on Long Haul Flights

I can’t believe I haven’t already posted this from Lisa Eldridge! I love this type of video, something about it is quite voyeuristic – an insight to the real products and methods the beauty expert uses.

Lisa gives a demonstration of exactly what she does in-flight and I will definitely be following it next time I travel (can that be soon please? Please?)

Larger, brighter looking eyes with Gossmakeupartist

This is a curious one because I’m not sure how I feel about putting contacts in my eyes when I don’t need them for sight. However, if you watch the video, Wayne makes a very convincing case for why we should wear them!

I would wear them on a night out or for special occasions and imagine the effect to be one where you look better, fresher, younger – but no one can work out why. And, who doesn’t want that?
